OHHHH! Wilder gets caught!! Not even sure what got him but Wilder is now stumbling with his back turned! Zhang jumps on him and levels Wilder with a right hook!! Wilder is trying to beat the count. He looks in bad shape though. Wilder gets up at 8 but the ref has seen enough! Clean sweep for Queensberry!!!
“There was something in my diet that wasn’t really agreeing with me, and I think it was tough to keep the weight on,” Joyce said, via Eurosport. “I felt Zhang was a lot heavier and he’s kind of hard to push back, but now that I’m heavier I think I’ll be able to do a bit more and not get pushed back as much.”
While Zhang, with huge commercial potential from China and an outside chance of taking on Fury next in a title fight, faces a potentially exciting 2024, Saturday’s result leaves Joyce facing the reality of a second successive setback at age 38. Joyce can take encouragement at the way Zhang’s career has gone into overdrive since he turned 39, but will now be questioning the wisdom of putting on 25 pounds for the rematch.
As revealed by Herald reporter Liam Napier in February, in his quest to secure another world heavyweight title shot, Joseph Parker must defeat Zhilei Zhang not once but twice after agreeing to a one-way rematch clause.
Joyce with a somber choice for his walkout music, the Jeff Buckley rendition of Hallelujah. It transitions into his custom Big Juggernaut theme. He looks loose as he busts a move on his way to the ring.
“The very copyrightability of tattoos is a novel issue,” says the Warner Bros. brief. “There is no legal precedent for Plaintiff’s radical claim that he is entitled, under the Copyright Act, to control the use of a tattoo that he created on the face of another human being.”
Zhang is clearly looking for the uppercut but he hasn’t been able to utilise it just yet. And that’s better from Parker — two good shots, including one to the body which halts Zhang’s indomitable march forward. He then twice goes to Zhang’s belly, but is given a warning by the referee for a low blow.
Anthony Joshua has just been interviewed by Sky Sports. He’s in a bit of a funny mood and seems to still be unhappy at the treatment he received in the press following his pair of defeats to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and 2022.
On January 3, 2022, the IBF sent an invitation to Hrgović and Luis Ortiz to enter talks for a final title eliminator. Hrgović immediately accepted the offer, with his promoters stating: “Challenge accepted by Filip Hrgovic, days and counting for Luis Ortiz to accept”. Ortiz refused, citing inability to compete due to injury. The IBF then invited the next highest ranked heavyweight contender, Joseph Parker, to enter talks for a title eliminator bout. Parker refused to enter talks as well, due to recovering from injuries. On January 10, the same invitation was extended to Tony Yoka. Yoka accepted the offer on January 13. The fight was supposed to be a rematch of their 2016 Summer Olympics semi-final bout, which Yoka narrowly won on points. The IBF later ruled Yoka ineligible to enter an agreement with any opponent other than Martin Bakole, as the two had already signed contracts to face each other. On January 26, both Andy Ruiz Jr. and Murat Gassiev received invitations to enter into negotiations with Hrgović, which they refused five days later, citing lingering injuries as the reason for refusal. On February 7, it was revealed that the #13 ranked Chinese heavyweight Zhilei Zhang had accepted the invitation to enter into negotiations with Hrgović.
In the main event Beterbiev, who has been so impressive amassing title belts and knocking out every professional opponent he has faced so far, goes into the most significant fight of his career, taking on high calibre rival champion Bivol for the undisputed championship.
Now it might be possible that the filmmakers could use some CGI magic to change the design of the tattoo for the DVD and television release of the film and I’m sure they are looking into that possibility right now. But I’m guessing that there will be a confidential settlement between the parties sometime this summer. And that tattoo will become one of the most expensive pieces of art in history.
Wilder finally throws a right but Zhang lands a right of his own that has Wilder moving. He cannot stay off the ropes and he refuses to get respect with his hands. There is only one possible outcome if this continues. Uppercut from Zhang in the corner just misses.
