OVERVIEW

The Bachelor of Education (Malay Literature) with Honours programme offered by the Faculty of Language and Communication (FBK), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) is designed to produce educators and literary scholars who are knowledgeable, skilled and have excellent personalities in the field of Malay literature and education. This programme emphasises a balance between theoretical and practical aspects that encompass the fields of literature, linguistics, culture and literary pedagogy so that graduates are able to convey knowledge effectively and creatively.

Students will be exposed to various genres of Malay literature — including poetry, prose, drama and criticism — in addition to understanding the aesthetic, philosophical and nationalistic values contained in literary works. The teaching approach used is based on research, active learning and the integration of educational technology to ensure that students can master literature teaching skills in an innovative and engaging way.

This programme also emphasises the development of 21st century skills such as communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity, as well as the application of ethical values and teaching professionalism. Through teaching training in schools and literary field activities, students have the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge into the real context of the world of education.
